Korean head spa scalp treatments are all the rage right now. The Korean head spa is essentially a form of skincare treatment, but for your scalp!

If you have an interest in K-beauty, you might have seen the viral 15-step scalp treatment on TikTok or Instagram! It's a huge trend in Korea at the moment and many foreigners that visit are also getting this scalp treatment.

But what exactly is a Korean head spa and how does it work? Let's find out together!

What is a head spa scalp treatment?

Essentially, you can think of it as a sort of deep cleanse for your scalp to remove any impurities such as dirt, oil, or dead skin cells through gentle exfoliation, soaking, and steaming using special devices and products.

Korean head spa treatments even improve the condition of your hair and make it softer! Your hair follicles, which eventually form into hair strands, grow from your scalp, so cleaning and treating the scalp will not only help keep your scalp healthy, it will also keep your hair healthy!

You may be thinking, "Isn't enough if I wash my hair regularly at home? I'm pretty thorough with it." Home care is just as important, but a deep cleanse every so often is very helpful and beneficial.

Think of it as going to the dentist; with a proper brushing and flossing routine at home, you can keep your teeth and gums healthy, but we still need to get our teeth deep cleaned professionally every so often to maintain healthy teeth in the long term!

When you get a head spa treatment, most salons will take a close look at your scalp and analyze the condition of it. Usually, there's a big difference between before and after the scalp treatment!

So what does a Korean head spa scalp treatment consist of? Usually, it includes the following steps:

  1. Consultation
  2. Scalp Analysis
  3. Exfoliation
  4. Deep Cleanse
  5. Massage
  6. Hair Treatment

Each salon has their own way of doing things and may have a slightly different process or method, but generally, this is what you can expect when getting a head spa in Korea.

Benefits of Getting a Head Spa

Korean head spas are highly recommended for those that get their hair dyed, bleached, or permed often, as the chemicals used for these procedures can be damaging to the scalp and hair.

It is also recommend for those that have sensitive, itchy scalps with dandruff, those who deal with hair loss, or for those that just want to treat themselves or a friend!

So what are the benefits of getting a head spa?

  1. You can get a good idea of the condition of your scalp with the up-close analysis.
  2. It provides a deep cleanse to remove any buildup of oil, dirt, dead skin cells, and hair product that is difficult to achieve fully at home.
  3. A clean, healthy scalp can help prevent dandruff and treat hair loss by improving hair growth.
  4. Scalp massages improve blood circulation and can even give a lifting effect to the face for up to 72 hours.
  5. It's a super relaxing and pampering experience!

How To Maintain A Healthy Scalp After Treatment

Korean head spa scalp treatments are said to last up to about a month at the longest. The duration of the effects of the treatment will be different for everyone depending on the original condition of your scalp and how you maintain it afterwards. In my personal experience, I felt like the treatment lasted about 1-2 weeks at the most.

There are many ways to maintain a healthy scalp with different products and practices. Staying hydrated, washing your hair regularly, and giving yourself scalp massages are a few ways to keep a healthy scalp.

There are also many K-beauty products available to help with maintaining a healthy scalp! Check out our recommendations below.

FAQ

1. How long does one session take?

Most hair salons in Seoul will include hairstyling afterwards, so the whole session, including consultation, head spa treatment, and styling, is usually around 1.5-2 hours. Of course, this will may differ depending on the salon, treatment option, and your scalp/hair condition.

2. How much does it cost?

The average cost for a head spa treatment in Korea is around 150,000 KRW (USD 112.64). It depends on the salon and the type of treatment. This cost usually includes hairstyling afterwards as well, but make sure to check beforehand if it does!

3. How long does the effects of the scalp treatment last?

The Korean head spa scalp treatment is generally said to last about 3 weeks to a month with proper maintenance and aftercare. Generally, most people have said the effects last about 2 weeks!

4. Is it recommended for people with curly hair types as well?

Yes! Korean head spa treatments can be done on all hair types.

5. Can I do other hair procedures (hair dye, bleach, perm, etc.) in addition to a head spa?

It can be done, but since the head spa treatment uses heat and steam, it's best to do the treatment before any other procedures, as the heat can effect the results of hair dye/bleach or a perm. Again, this will be different for everyone, so it's better to determine during on-site consultation!
